Carnival Jubilee Review: A Family Cruise Through The Western Caribbean

From first-time cruisers and beach days to Guy's Burger Joint, BOLT, Carnival's incredible entertainment, and unforgettable family memories, I want to share what our week aboard Carnival Jubilee was really like.

Every cruise creates memories, but every once in a while, one becomes extra special.

Last December, I sailed aboard Carnival Jubilee on a seven-night Western Caribbean cruise with my niece, Lilly, my nephews, Caleb and Aiden, and their parents, Jeff and Rachael. It was their very first cruise, and getting to experience Carnival through their eyes reminded me why I fell in love with cruising in the first place.

If you've been wondering whether Carnival Jubilee lives up to the hype, here's what our week was really like.

Embarkation Day: Delays, Guy's Burgers & Dancing into Vacation

Like every cruise, our adventure started with excitement...and an unexpected delay.

Before boarding, Carnival informed us that the ship was undergoing an additional U.S. Coast Guard inspection. While delays like this don't happen often, they do occasionally occur, and I appreciated that Carnival kept everyone informed while making sure guests were comfortable during the wait.

Once we were finally allowed onboard, I had exactly one destination in mind, Guy's Burger Joint.

If you've cruised with me before, you know this is one of my favorite complimentary restaurants on any Carnival ship, and I couldn't wait for everyone else to try it. It didn't take long before Aiden became an even bigger fan than I am. By the end of the week, we'd completely lost count of how many Guy's Burgers he had eaten!

After grabbing lunch and completing our muster drill, I helped everyone get familiar with the ship before we headed to our staterooms. Since this was everyone's first cruise, there were lots of wide eyes and excited smiles as we explored.

One thing you'll quickly learn about me is I have to unpack before I can relax. Once my suitcase is empty, vacation officially begins.

Before long, the kids were eager to check out Carnival's youth programs. Lilly couldn't wait to visit Camp Ocean, while Caleb and Aiden headed off to Club O2. Within a day, they'd already made friends and had their own plans every evening.

Meanwhile, the adults met on the Lido Deck to officially kick off vacation with my favorite Carnival cocktail, The Cruiser.

Then came one of my favorite cruise traditions...

The Sail Away Party.

The music was loud, the energy was contagious, and before I knew it Lilly was dancing with the Fun Squad. A few minutes later she decided I should be dancing too. Let's just say it's hard to tell your niece no when she's having that much fun!

That evening we enjoyed our first dinner in the Main Dining Room before catching part of the entertainment in Grand Central. We didn't stay late. We had an exciting week ahead and the first day wears you out, but it was the perfect ending to our first day onboard.

Sea Days Done Right

One of the biggest surprises for first-time cruisers is how much there is to do without ever leaving the ship.

Our first sea day was exactly what vacation should be.

After wandering around for a bit, we discovered what quickly became our favorite place on Carnival Jubilee, the aft pool. Watching the ship's wake stretch across the horizon while relaxing in the pool became one of my favorite parts of the cruise. Even better, a bar and several of our favorite places to grab a quick bite were just steps away, making it easy to spend the entire afternoon there.

Lunch for me was pizza from Pizzeria del Capitano, and I snuck in a quick nap before getting ready for Elegant Night.

Seeing everyone dressed up made the evening feel extra special. We stopped for family photos before heading to the Main Dining Room, where another wonderful meal was waiting.

By now I'd already established my nightly tradition.

Every single evening, I ordered Carnival's famous Warm Chocolate Melting Cake with two scoops of vanilla ice cream. Yes...two scoops. No regrets.

It didn't take long before the kids started ordering it too.

That evening we enjoyed one of Carnival's family-friendly comedy shows before the adults wandered over to Dr. Inks, Ph.D. Bar while the kids returned to Camp Ocean and Club O2.

One thing that really surprised me on this sailing was Carnival's entertainment.

I've sailed Carnival before, but the production shows in Grand Central completely exceeded my expectations. The performers, lighting, music, technology, and special effects felt more like a professional theater production than a traditional cruise show. Carnival has definitely raised the bar, and I found myself looking forward to each evening's entertainment almost as much as dinner.

Our second sea day was all about having fun.

The kids spent time racing down the waterslides, and honestly, I had just as much fun watching them as they did riding on them. Their laughter echoed across the deck all afternoon. After that the boys went to play basketball while the rest of us hung by the pool.

Lunch that day came from Shaq's Big Chicken, another huge hit with everyone. Between Guy's Burger Joint and Shaq's, I'm not sure the kids would have needed another restaurant all week!

Of course, no day on Carnival Jubilee is complete without a ride on BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster.

Watching Caleb and Aiden race around the track high above the ship was almost as entertaining as the ride itself. Their smiles when they climbed off told me everything I needed to know—it was absolutely worth it.

By the end of our second sea day, we had settled into a routine that made the ship feel like home.

Tomorrow, we'd finally arrive at our first port of call.

Mahogany Bay: A Beach Day Worth the Splurge

Our first port of call was Mahogany Bay on the beautiful island of Roatán, Honduras, Carnival's private cruise destination, now also known as Isla Tropicale.

The adventure started before we even made it to the beach.

Instead of walking, we bought tickets for the Magic Flying Beach Chair—basically a ski lift for the beach. It carried us over lush tropical vegetation before gently dropping us off just steps from the sand. The ride itself was almost as much fun as the beach!

When we arrived, the beach was already filling up, and finding several chairs together wasn't going to be easy. We decided to splurge on the VIP beach area, and honestly, it was one of the best decisions we made all week. Having reserved loungers, extra space, and a quieter atmosphere made it easy to relax and enjoy the day together.

After a quick lunch, Caleb and Lilly grabbed their snorkel gear and headed into the crystal-clear water. Before long, Lilly had found a new mission—searching for lobsters.

She spotted several hiding among the rocks, and they were fascinating to watch...from a safe distance! Trust me, those pinchers are no joke. Ask me how I know. 😄

Back onboard, we decided to treat ourselves to dinner at Bonsai Teppanyaki, and it quickly became one of my favorite meals of the cruise.

The chefs kept everyone laughing while preparing our dinner right at the table, and every course was outstanding. Between the incredible food, the fun atmosphere, and the fantastic service, I'd recommend making a reservation if you're sailing on Carnival Jubilee. It was absolutely worth the splurge.

Costa Maya: Why I Stayed on the Ship

The next morning, we arrived in Costa Maya, but instead of heading ashore, I decided to enjoy something many cruisers overlook, a quiet ship.

While Jeff, Rachael, Lilly, Caleb, and Aiden explored the ancient Mayan ruins, I had a completely different kind of adventure.

One of the best-kept secrets of cruising is staying onboard while everyone else is in port. Suddenly there are open lounge chairs everywhere, the pools are peaceful, and you can enjoy parts of the ship that are normally bustling with activity.

It was exactly the kind of relaxing day I needed.

I treated myself to a nap, enjoyed lunch at Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse, indulged in...well...more than one ice cream, and found a quiet corner overlooking the ocean where I spent time reading with a drink in hand.

Sometimes doing absolutely nothing turns out to be one of the best vacation memories.

That evening everyone returned with stories from their excursion, and we gathered once again in the Main Dining Room. By this point, our nightly tradition was firmly established.

Yes...the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake with two scoops of vanilla ice cream made another appearance.

That night was '80s Rock-N-Glow Night, and it ended up being one of the most fun evenings of the cruise.

The boys decided to hang out with their friends from Club O2, but the rest of us were ready to dance.

Dressed in our brightest neon colors, we joined the party in Grand Central as the Carnival Fun Squad taught everyone the Thriller dance. Between the music, the lights, and the energy in the room, it was impossible not to have fun.

Watching Lilly dance without a care in the world reminded me that some of the best cruise memories aren't planned—they just happen.

Cozumel: My Favorite Shopping Port, and Mr. Sanchos as always!

By the time we arrived in Cozumel, everyone had settled into cruise life.

This stop has always been one of my favorites, and it didn't disappoint.

We spent the day at Mr. Sancho's Beach Club, one of my favorite places to relax in Cozumel. With soft white sand, turquoise water, unlimited food and drinks, several pools, and attentive service, it was everything you'd hope for in a Caribbean beach day.

The kids immediately ordered quesadillas, while I happily ordered fajitas and my favorite drink on the menu—the Green Monster. Who doesn’t love a good frozen drink on the beach. Good food, a tropical drink, and an ocean view...that's hard to beat.

If you're thinking about visiting Mr. Sancho's, I definitely recommend making reservations ahead of time. It's one of the most popular beach clubs in Cozumel and often sells out when several ships are in port.

Before heading back to the ship, we spent some time shopping around the cruise port.

Out of every port we visited, Cozumel is still my favorite place to shop. Whether you're looking for souvenirs, locally made crafts, vanilla, tequila, or jewelry, it's easy to spend an hour or two browsing the colorful shops. Somehow, I never seem to leave empty-handed!

That evening we enjoyed one more dinner together in the Main Dining Room, sharing stories from another wonderful day before calling it a night.

Tomorrow would be our final full day onboard, and none of us were quite ready for the cruise to end.

One Last Day at Sea

It's funny how quickly a cruise starts to feel like home.

By our final sea day, none of us were thinking about packing or heading back to reality. We just wanted to enjoy every last minute onboard.

Without much discussion, we all naturally ended up back at our favorite place on the ship, the aft pool. Between the incredible wake views, comfortable loungers, and easy access to some of our favorite places to eat, it had become our little home away from home.

The kids spent one last day with their friends at Camp Ocean and Club O2 while the adults relaxed by the pool, making good use of our CHEERS! Beverage Package and enjoying one last carefree day at sea.

One thing I love about Carnival Jubilee is how easy it is to spend an entire day without ever feeling rushed. Every time someone got hungry, we'd wander off for a quick snack before finding our way back to the pool. Whether it was pizza, another stop at Guy's Burger Joint (Aiden definitely wasn't finished yet!), or something sweet, we happily snacked our way through the day.

As a cruise advisor, people often ask me if they should plan every minute of their cruise.

My answer is always the same, leave room for moments like this.

Some of my favorite memories aren't from excursions or scheduled activities. They're the simple moments spent relaxing with family, watching the ocean roll by, and realizing you don't have anywhere else you need to be.

That evening, instead of chasing one more activity, we decided to slow things down.

The ship was showing a movie on the big screen by the main pool, and although the Caribbean air had turned surprisingly cool, it made the evening even better. We wrapped ourselves in blankets, grabbed popcorn, and settled in under the stars for one last movie night together.

It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable week.

Final Thoughts

As I packed my suitcase that night, I realized this cruise had reminded me why I love traveling so much.

Yes, we visited beautiful beaches.

Yes, we ate incredible food.

Yes, we rode a roller coaster at sea, danced through Sail Away, learned the Thriller dance, searched for lobsters, and probably consumed enough Warm Chocolate Melting Cake to last a lifetime.

But those aren't the first memories that come to mind.

I think about Lilly pulling me onto the dance floor without a second thought.

I think about Aiden's mission to sample what felt like every Guy's Burger on the ship.

I think about watching Caleb race down waterslides and snorkel in crystal-clear water.

I think about quiet afternoons reading by the ocean while the ship was nearly empty.

Most of all, I think about seeing the excitement of cruising through the eyes of first-time cruisers.

As someone who helps families plan vacations for a living, moments like these remind me that cruising isn't just about visiting amazing destinations. It's about slowing down, reconnecting with the people you love, laughing a little more, putting your phones away for a while, and making memories that stay with you long after you've unpacked your suitcase.

Carnival Jubilee exceeded my expectations in so many ways. The entertainment in Grand Central was outstanding, the dining offered something for everyone, and there truly was never a shortage of things to do or delicious food to eat. Whether we were relaxing by the aft pool, enjoying a Broadway-style production, exploring the Western Caribbean, or simply sharing dessert after dinner, every day brought something new.

Would I sail Carnival Jubilee again?

In a heartbeat. In fact, we already have another scheduled on her sister ship, the Carnival Celebration. I can’t wait to sail with them all again!
